Péter Scharek, Senior Research Associate of the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary contacted our group in seeking for partners for a future Hungarian-Mexican cooperation on the risk assessment and risk reduction of a large area contaminated by historical cinnabar mining in Mexico. The topic is entirely fitting into the research field of the BME reaserach team. We anticipate that BME's expertise would efficiently complement the work of the Mexican team. BME's input in the Hungarian- Mexican cooperation will cover but not be limited to the following topics: environmental risk management of abandoned mining sites, integrated risk assessment, risk reduction, ecotoxicity tests, human health risk assessment etc.
