Actinomyces hyphae can be seen on the mocroscopic picture of the filamentous bacteria.

Actinomyces colonies form branched networks of hyphae, so that their macromorphology shows similarity to fungi, but they are bacteria. Individual cells are rod-shaped.

Actinomyces species play role as human and other mammal pathogens, they cause infection of the oral cavity, rarely the lungs, or the gastrointestinal tract.

Many species of  Actinomyces are living in soil, playing role in biodegradation of organic matter and contaminants.
