Red farmland

The photo shows the red mud covered farmland stretching along 10 000 hectars. A 1−2 cms red mud layer can be mixed into the soil by tillage. 5−10 weight % red mud mixed into the soil has no damaging effect. However leaving it on the surface may cause sealing of the soil surface. This results anaerobic conditions in the soil damaging or killing soil living organism.
