The opening between the two walls is filled by a flat dyke/barrier. Its level is higher than the level of the dried mud, therefore it would be able to withstand any likely forward movement of the mud from the pond. The new dyke was constructed from pieces of the broken wall. The constructed wall is compacted by the heavy equipment working on the dyke. This dyke contains also a permeable layer allowing free water discharge from the pond. The suspended red mud particles are filtered by this dyke!barrier and by the permeable reactive barrier located under the wall.
